WEST - Eugene Vishnevsky (the USA, Los Angeles)
EAST – Alexander Limarev (RUSSIA, Novosibirsk)
This year the world is celebrating a prominent date, 450th birthday anniversary of the English playwright William Shakespeare. In commemoration of this event Russian artist and poet Aleksander Limarev organized several mail-art exhibitions held in the Asian and European parts of Russia. These exhibitions were part of an international mail-art project “Shakespeare 450”, organized and coordinated by Alexander Limarev and Anna Tsepkova. The project started as a blog which contains contributions from 21 countries, counting 114 artworks. Total pageviews exceed 63 thousand. One of the artists who joined the project with 10 artworks based on Shakespeare’s plays is Eugene Vishnevsky, an American graphic artist.
As the organizer of the project “Shakespeare 450” Alexander Limarev proposes the idea of participating together with Eugene Vishnevsky in a well-known project “WEST – EAST” by Maurizio Follin and Bruno Cassaglia. Alexander Limarev matched Eugene Vishnevsky’ graphics to extended quotes from Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays. Now this meticulous creative work is over. As a result, for the project “WEST – EAST” 10 images are prepared, combining Eugene Vishnevsky’s graphics and corresponding quotes from Shakespeare, selected and coordinated by Alexander Limarev.
It is the authors’ hope that their specific conception matches the conception expressed by the organizers of the project “WEST – EAST”, Maurizio Follin and Bruno Cassaglia.
